Understanding your hay is the first step to creating a balanced feeding program for your horse. Canvasback Pet Supplies offer an Equine Hay Analysis that provides detailed nutritional information so you can confidently choose the right feeds and supplements based on your horse’s age, workload, body condition, and overall needs.

Why Test Your Hay?

Hay can vary greatly in nutrient content from one cutting or field to another. A hay analysis helps you:

• Identify protein, sugar, fibre, and mineral levels
• Balance your horse’s diet more accurately
• Avoid over- or under-supplementing
• Support optimal health and performance

How It Works

1. Purchase Your Analysis Kit
   After checkout, we’ll contact you to confirm whether you’d like:
   • In-store pickup, or
   • A digital sampling form emailed to you so you can complete the process from home
2. Collect Your Hay Sample
   Cut hay into approximately 1″ strips and fill a small sandwich-sized Ziplock bag.
   Sampling Tips for Accurate Results
   • Sample from multiple bales
   • For round bales: sample toward the middle of the bale
   • For square bales: sample from the butt ends between strings or wires, avoiding the outer edges
   • Don’t select bales based on appearance — include a representative sample
3. Label Your Sample
   Include:
   • Your name
   • Email address
   • Sample name (example: “West Pasture” or “Bob’s Hay”)
   • Store Purchased from (Canvasback Pet Supplies)
4. Ship Your Sample
   Send your sample to the lab address provided after purchase.
